Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology ("MAC") MAC
Class Notebook:
In order to meet the varied needs of students who often work full-time, have families, and commute long distances, courses are offered on a schedule of one-meeting per week. Most courses are offered during the evening hours and afternoon hours, with classroom time for internship held on Saturdays. The core of the MAC program is a set of nine required classes (27 credits). (The Internship series is an additional six required credits.) These courses cover material that will be needed by all students in the MAC Program, despite their individual career interests or emphases. The Internship Series will be discussed later. At any time, you can see the annual schedule of MAC classes (tentative) by simply accessing the link on the lower left. Course numbers are an important aid so pay attention to the numbering sequence. Students are expected to begin with 500 level "foundation" courses before beginning the advanced 600 level courses (required or elective). Unless you are substituting transfer hours, you will need to take three elective classes (9 credit hours). Naturally, you are welcome, and even encouraged, to take any additional elective courses that interest you. However, doing so will take you beyond the 42 hours (minimum) required for a MAC degree. You are strongly encouraged to wait to take elective courses until later in your program. This gives you maximum flexibility. If an elective doesn't fit into your schedule later in the program, you can substitute another; but if it is a required course that doesn't fit into your schedule, then you're stuck! |
